Dear PIA users,

please find in the tarfile pia_fexp.tar.gz
several files you need to run PIA V10.0. It includes:

PIA - a UNIX shell script to launch PIA.

PIA.com - EXAMPLE for a VMS command file doing the same as PIA
			 on VMS (NOT MAINTAINED!).

envi.pia - the general environment variables (UNIX)

logdef.com - the general logical settings EXAMPLE (VMS, NOT
			 MAINTAINED!)

pia_envi.example - an example for user PIA environment setting (UNIX).

pia_logdef.com - an example for user PIA logicals setting (VMS).

pia_start.scr - an IDL script to initialize PIA from IDL. It is used
			 by PIA (PIA.com)

ia_init_sysv.pro - an IDL routine to set the system variables (used by
		         pia_start.scr)

pia_export_IDL6.0.sav - the executable files containing the whole PIA
			  for IDL 6.0

pia_export_IDL6.1.sav - the executable files containing the whole PIA
			  for IDL 6.1

p32tools - a directory structure, under which the whole P32Tools
                        package, including documentation, is contained

+ several calibration directories, containing calibration files.

In the tarfile pia_docu.tar.gz you will find

html/... - the hypertext help system used by PIA, including
the full PIA User manual in latex postscript format
help/... - the on-line help for the PIA source files.

Installing everything is very simple. Just go to the central pia directory and
unload the tarfile(s). Everything will find its place. The user manual includes
a section on installing and configuring PIA. From the html/um/ps_tex directory
everything (*.ps) can be sent to the printer by any ordinary print command.

Having an executable means, that the user starts the PIA with all files
compiled from the very beginning.

An individual user can define his preferred settings by copying pia_envi.example
(UNIX) / pia_logdef.com (VMS) file to his individual PIA directory and changing
settings to his gusto and rename it to pia_envi in the UNIX case. The default
places searched by PIA (PIA.com) are in this order:

1) the directory you start from,
2) any directory defined by the user to be his main PIA directory. This is done
by defining a "PIA_LOC_IND" environment variable / logical.
3) a directory "pia" directly below the user's root (e.g. ~aeinstein/pia for a
UNIX user aeinstein or DISK:[AEINSTEIN.PIA] for a VMS aeinstein).

To start PIA just begin by sending from any place (preferably a
filesystem/directory of your own) PIA / PIA.COM.

	Have fun & enjoy PIA >= V10.0
