Detectors

The SWS has the following detectors, all arranged in the direction of the dispersion.
For the grating section:
- an array of 12 InSb detectors for the range 2.38-4.08 tex2html_wrap_inline2404 m (Band 1),
- an array of 12 Si:Ga detectors for the range 4.08-13.16 tex2html_wrap_inline2404 m (Band 2),
- an array of 12 Si:As (BIBIB) detectors for the range 12.0-29.0 tex2html_wrap_inline2404 m (Band 3), and
- an array of 12 Ge:Be detectors for the range 28.9-45.2 tex2html_wrap_inline2404 m (Band 4).
For the Fabry-Pérot section:
- an array of 2 Si:Sb detectors for the range 11.4-26.0 tex2html_wrap_inline2404 m (Band 5), and
- an array of 2 Ge:Be detectors for the range 26.0-44.5 tex2html_wrap_inline2404 m (Band 6).

The InSb, the Si:As (BIBIB) and the Si:Ga detectors will be operated at a temperature of 4-5 K; the Si:Sb detectors for the F-P will be heated to 10 K (F-P); and the Ge:Be detectors will be cooled by a thermal conductor to the 2 K cryostat heat sink. The detectors will be used with integrating pre-amplifiers with non-destructive read-out, employing heated JFET's. The integrating amplifiers have a read-noise of the order of 30 e tex2html_wrap_inline2592 . For more details see chapter 5.
