Raster Mode

The staring raster mode is a sequence of staring observations (i. e. chopping is not allowed) on a two-dimensional regular grid which consists of a sequence of spacecraft pointings. The detector setting remains unchanged for all pointings. Furthermore, the orientation of the raster may be chosen independently of the spacecraft orientation. However, the observed sky region may be incompletely sampled (for example see Fig. 15).

Point sources on complex backgrounds or extended sources (more than 3 arcmin) can be studied with this observing mode. This mode is the only one for mapping with PHT-P.

The maximum number of raster points is 32 x 32. The separation of the raster points may be chosen as an integer between half the aperture or array size and 180. Therefore, the maximum sampling area is 1.6 x 1.6 square degrees.
