10.3 Rebinning of wavelength to standard scale

This process would involve the following steps:

• Check the input file for duplicate points in the x-scale. If there are any duplicate points for the same detector, then they should be averaged.
• Specify the new reference x-scale. This could be:
  • Equidistant, giving start wavelength, end wavelength and number of steps or start wavelength, step width and number of steps.
  • Consistent with a given resolution, giving start wavelength, end wavelength and resolution.
• Interpolate the y-values in the input spectrum to the new reference x-scale using:
  • Linear interpolation (flux conserving)
  • Cubic spline interpolation
  • Polynomial interpolation
