The values are occuring at the edge of SW2 which is a particulary noisy detector. These are actually very nice spectra. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TDT # : 09200726 OLP/Cal-G ver : ? Message : Contains negative values Checked by : TL Date : 05/03/96 Last product OK : AAR Reprocess ? : NO Reschedule ? : NO QCL3 needed ? : NO Comment : This AOT was performed on a very faint source for LWS, therefore the spectrum is difficult to see on the preview plot. Negative values in this spectrum are occuring for two reasons. The large negative values occur because when a source is very faint Derive SPD occasionally returns a negative value for a particular ramp i.e. due to statistical variations due to noise on the ramps. When Auto Analysis substracts the dark current this value becomes larger. This value can become larger again when the relative flux an spectral response stages are applied which are both +ve multiplicative factors. The smaller negative values occur when Derive SPD detects a glitch and returns zero photocurrent. This zero value is then passed through Auto Analysis as above leading to small negative values. Note : SW2 (45-65 microns) is a particulary noisy detector therefore this effect occurs much more for this detector. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TDT # : 09200724 OLP/Cal-G ver : ? Texier c.c. : N. Trams, T. Lim, Date : 13/02/98 Subject : QCL2 for TDTs 32300923 & 32300924 --------------------------------- Dear Yasunori, The result of the Quality Check performed by the LIDT on the two TDTs 32300923 and 32300924 in not to recommend their re-scheduling. Here is the explanation (same for the two observations) : Indeed these two observations are made of only forward scans. These are the commands the Logic applied to the parameters entered in PGA generated. So the instrument operated perfectly nominaly, and would give the same data again if the observation is re-scheduled. This is a feature of the LWS Logic that is trying to optimize the observation by doing the following steps : 1. It computes the number of scans needed to achieve the required S/N 2. It lists the various alternatives to perform these scans 3. It selects the alternative requirering less time The problems comes from the fact that the LWS Logic will do the observation by having a command block repeated as many times as necessary between two illuminator flashes. E.g. if 8 scans are needed there are 3 alternatives: A1 : |ill. flash|4 scans|ill. flash|4 scans|ill. flash| A2 : |flash|2 scans|flash|2 scans|flash|2 scans|flash|2 scans|flash| A3 : |fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan |fl.|scan|fl.| and the shortest time will be the alternative one (therefore having even number of forward and backward scans), but if the number of scans is a prime number then there is only one possibility, e.g. for 7 scans : |fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.|scan|fl.| ... which will provide only forward scans. This problem has been known since a long time but it was decided that looking at the complexity of the LWS Logic the update was not worth. Note that the correct number of scans to achieve the required S/N has been performed by the LWS instrument. It is fair to say that there may be some specific effects of having only forward scans on this target, but it may be possible to correct for them in the future. If the scientific objectives of these observations are not fulfilled, then I guess it for you to decide, but be aware that then new observations need to be entered in PGA. I hope this helps. The LIAC file gives only one value of the dark measurement and the LIER file contains data for only one flash. The automatic drift correction is therefore impossible. As rescheduling is not anymore possible, the user should be informed of how to perform the drift correction and the remaining calibration steps 'by hand'. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TDT # : 10901728 OLP/Cal-G ver : OLP_632/CALG_31 Message : LCHA SDIR Value changes during scan Checked by : MB Date : 27/04/98 Last product OK : AAR Reprocess ? : N Reschedule ? : N QCL3 needed ? : N Comment : This observation looks fine, although two points have the wrong direction in four scans. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TDT # : 84801302 OLP/Cal-G ver : OLP_632 Message : LCHA RPID(0) Value Changes during scan Checked by : TL Date : 050598 Last product OK : AAR Reprocess ? : n Reschedule ? : n QCL3 needed ? : n Comment : Solar system object, observation is OK. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TDT # : 09700453 OLP/Cal-G ver : OLP_632 Message : LCHA SDIR Value changes during scan Checked by : TL Date : 050598 Last product OK : AAR Reprocess ? : n Reschedule ? : n QCL3 needed ? : n Comment : Only one point in two scans affected.
